1. The Lausanne Cathedral is a marvelous old building. Its construction started in 1175, and it was finished 100 years later in 1275. Every night from 10 PM to 2 AM a nightwatchman calls the exact time. This practice was used in medieval cities, and the nightwatchman was a very important person, as he prevented the city from fires and enemy attacks. Lausanne is the only European city to continue this tradition, and every night you can hear the person calling the exact hour from the tower of the cathedral.

2. The lakefront of Ouchy is well worth a visit. You will find here a beach, and the Alps in the horizon. Here you will also find the Chateau d'Ouchy, a wonderful castle, as well as many pubs and restaurants.

3. Palais de Rumine is also worth a visit. There are five museums inside this stylish building. It is opened Tuesday to Wednesday 11.00-18.00, Thursday 11.00-20.00 and Friday to Sunday 11.00-17.00.

4. Musée Historique de Lausanne. This history museum is located near the Cathedral, and it contains many documents, pictures about the history of Lausanne and of the surrounding cities.

5. The Old Town. Lausanne is mainly a city that is beautiful because of the many harmonious buildings, the mountain and the small shops. The city centre is quite big for a town the size of Lausanne. A long walk through the streets of Lausanne and through the forests is highly recommended.
